About ACB Scholarships

We thank those of you who support the Asheville Community Band monetarily.  Because of your generosity, we are able to award scholarships to young talented musicians who are pursuing a college degree in music education as well as to younger musicians who wish to improve their skills at summer music Camp. Your donations help ensure the continuance of concert band music not only for our group but for young musicians all over Western North Carolina.

The Band awards two $1000 college scholarships annually. The Patricia L. Garren scholarship is given in honor of the band’s founding director and the Asheville Community Band Music Education Scholarship is often given in memory of a former band member. The band gave its first college scholarship in 1998 and since then has given out over $30,000.00 in scholarships. The awards are presented each year during the band’s spring concert in March.

There is one college scholarship application which is presented in two versions, depending upon your student status (incoming freshman or current college student). The Mars Hill College Summer Music Camp scholarships are given to middle or high school students. This scholarship includes monies for: tuition, optional campus housing, activities, meals, and one private music lesson. The winners of the music camp scholarships are announced at the band’s Memorial Day concert in May.
